Israel Hits 6 Areas in South Lebanon Despite Ceasefire Deal

(MENAFN) Israeli forces pounded southern Lebanon with airstrikes, drone fire and artillery shelling on Monday and set off two detonations, Lebanese media reported, in fresh breaches of the ceasefire still nominally in force.

The assaults hit six areas across the districts of Nabatieh, Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun and Tyre, the country’s state news agency reported.

Israeli warplanes struck Wadi al-Hujair, the agency said. In Mayfadoun, a quadcopter drone fired a projectile at the roof of a building in the al-Rajm neighborhood that had been hit before, and the town’s outskirts came under sporadic shelling.

In Bint Jbeil district, Israeli artillery fired on the town of Haddatha. Farther east, in Marjayoun district, warplanes launched two rounds of strikes near Tallouseh, while Israeli troops carried out two powerful detonations in the neighboring town of Qantara. The agency did not say what the detonations targeted.

In Tyre district, Israeli artillery shelled the town of Mansouri and the valley around it.

No casualties were immediately reported.

Israel has been attacking Lebanon since March 2, killing and wounding thousands of people and uprooting more than 1.5 million residents.

On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-sponsored framework agreement calling for a phased Israeli pullback from Lebanese territory, the deployment of the Lebanese army, and the disarmament of Hezbollah. Israel has kept up its attacks on the south despite the deal.

Israeli forces also remain on Lebanese soil, including areas they have held for decades and others taken in more recent wars and military operations.
