Israel Steps Up Preparations for Possible New Confrontation with Iran
The Israeli military is reportedly preparing for a potential strike while continuing close intelligence and operational coordination with US forces. The preparations reportedly include options for a preemptive operation as well as measures to respond if Iran launches an attack.
Despite the preparations, assessments cited in reports indicate that the chances of Israel or the US carrying out an attack before the US midterm elections in November remain relatively low.
Iran’s nuclear activities continue to be regarded by Israel as a major security concern, according to reports.
Separately, reports indicate that Washington is preparing to deploy additional troops and aircraft to Israel in the coming weeks as concerns grow over a possible escalation across the Middle East.
Around 3,000 US military personnel are currently stationed in various locations across Israel, including troops involved in operating air defense systems, pilots, support teams and logistics personnel, according to reports citing security officials.
Additional American personnel and aircraft are expected to arrive as Washington increases its military presence in the region.
At the same time, the Israeli military is continuing contingency planning for a possible renewed confrontation with Iran or a rapid escalation of regional tensions. The preparations are being carried out in close coordination with the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
