Paris Demonstration Calls for Sanctions on Israel
(MENAFN) A large number of demonstrators convened on Monday at Place Saint-Michel in Paris to protest what they described as genocide and a deliberately orchestrated famine occurring in Gaza.
The rally was organized following a call from the France Palestine Solidarity Association (AFPS), urging public action under the theme: “Stop the genocide in Gaza and the organized famine! Sanctions against Israel!”
In its official appeal, the association declared: "Let us denounce the complicity of the French government and the European Union, who refuse to impose a ceasefire and put in place sanctions, thus allowing Israel to continue to violate international law day after day, with complete impunity!"
The organization criticized both the French authorities and the European Union for their inaction, accusing them of enabling continued violations of international standards by Israel.
The AFPS highlighted the critical importance of preventing further loss of life and starvation among Palestinians.
They also demanded the reinstatement of academic access for students from Gaza and insisted on the implementation of international penalties against Israel.
In another part of their statement, the group emphasized: "Words are no longer enough, the French government must take political, diplomatic and economic sanctions against Israel now and stop attacking those who denounce the ongoing genocide and Israel's crimes!"
The protestors urged French leadership to take concrete actions instead of offering mere verbal support.
Since October 2023, Israeli military operations have resulted in the deaths of over 62,000 Palestinians in Gaza.
The region has been left in ruins and is currently enduring a severe humanitarian crisis, including widespread hunger.
In a significant move last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of perpetrating war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
